Dr. U (or Kevin) was born in a very small region called Macau, then he spent his first 17.83 years in Macau, until graduated from high school in year 2002. Macau (traditional Chinese: 澳門; simplified Chinese: 澳门), also spelled Macao (/məˈkaʊ/), is along with Hong Kong, one of the two special administrative regions of the People's Republic of China. It lies on the western side of the Pearl River Delta, bordering Guangdong province to the north and facing the South China Sea to the east and south. It's also called the East Las Vegas, whose gambling revenue was seven times of Las Vegas in year 2014. Below are some views of Macau, see how amazing it is? People always say college is a fresh new start of our life, a place that you make new friends who love you as you are, and find your niche. Attending college in another city did open Dr. U's eyes to the world, his journey to explore the unknown world also started from here. Some milestones are listed as following.

2002 - Moved to Shanghai for College
2005 - Worked at Webasto AG. in Munich, Germany for Software Development
  • Selected by Shanghai University as one of the five Elite Student Representatives participated in the first exchange program between Shanghai University and Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich. Worked at the headquater of Webasto AG. in Munich (Germany) as an IT Intern.
  • Selected by the Computer Science department to participate in the "Research Program for Outstanding Undergraduate Students", conducted research in the Computer Systems Research Laboratory.
2006 - Graduated from College & Returned to Macau for Professional Career
  • Received Bachelor of Engineering degree in Computer Science from Shanghai University.
  • Received A grade on the final year project, an accomplishment shared by only 3% of nearly 300 students in the whole department. The project was not only appraised by the University as "The Excellent Thesis of Shanghai University" but was also published in both national and interntional conferences.
  • Started professional career as an Assistant Analyst Programmer (DevOps) at Cable & Wireless Communications (Macau Branch: CTM).
2007 - First Promotion
2008 - Promotion Again & Moved to USA for Ph.D.
2009 - Shifted Research Focus to Machine Learning & Received Upgraded Scholarship
2012 - Worked at IBM T.J. Watson Research Center in NY
  • Worked at IBM T.J. Watson Research Center as a Research Intern, conducted research in the Cloud Performance and Availability Management area. Implemented solutions with Java, Machine Learning, and Natural Language Processing techniques.
2013 - Became Dr. U & Joined Think Big Analytics in Silicon Valley to work on Big Data problems
2014 - Joined Las Vegas Sands Corp. to build Data Science team by giving up iBank opportunity
  • Joined Las Vegas Sands Corp. (NYSE: LVS) as a Senior Manager of Data Science, moved to Las Vegas NV. Dr. U was the first Data Scientist at Las Vegas Sands Corp., and later he built out the data science practice across multiple markets (Las Vegas, Singapore, and Macau).

2015 - Promoted To Global Director Of Data Science With Greater Impact To International Markets
  • Promoted to Global Director of Data Science at Las Vegas Sands Corp. (NYSE: LVS), managed a team of Statistics, Data/Text mining, Machine Learning, and Economics Experts to solve very interesting problems. Led multimillion-dollar data engineering & data science projects to drive CX and business growth.
2017 - Promised Ex-LVS Executive To Help Building The Data Science Practice And Digital Transformation Roadmap At Carnival
  • Joined Carnival Cruise Line (NYSE: CCL, LSE: CCL) as a Senior Director/Head of Marketing Analytics & Data Science, moved to Miami, FL. Responsible for building the Marketing Analytics and Data Science team as a Center of Excellence to drive CX and business growth, reported to the Chief Marketing Officer (later the Chief Digital Officer).

  • Received an offer from the Taobao Technology Division under Alibaba Group (NYSE: BABA), mainly responsible for leveraging technology solutions to drive CX and business growth. Having considered all the factors combined, decided not to make the move, yet.
2019 - Be Part of the CX & Technology Transformation Journey in Finance Industry
  • Joined American Express (NYSE: AXP) as a Vice President of Engineering, Data Strategy & Transformation. Responsible for Data Strategy & Intelligence, A.I./Machine Learning, and Omnichannel CX Transformation; reports to Unit CIO of Global Services Group and Corporate CTO. His focus is to drive strategic planning and a cohesive set of technology solutions enabling data and platform transformation, by collaborating across all channel teams and the critical technology platforms that support Colleague and Customer Experiences.
2020 - Promoted To Drive Enterprise Data and AI/ML Capabilities Across AmEx & Joined Tertiary Education As Advisor To Give Back
2021 - Promoted To Drive Global Data Technology & Augmented Intelligence Across AmEx & Joined more Advisory Boards to Give Back
